Sometimes I think the way we go about helping those that are in need of help does little to improve their self-sufficiency. Why do I say that? It’s because I believe that each person has the ability to make much needed changes in their lives, with a little help from their friends.
I’m reminded of that African Proverb, “give a man a fish he will eat for a day, teach him how to fish he will eat for a lifetime. By teaching a man, (woman, boy or girl) how to fish, you empower them, making them the Captain of their own ship and destiny.
Our desire is to light the path for those that come through our doors, helping them to illuminate their potential and abilities. Hence the Empowerment Zone’s motto, “lighting the path for a brighter future.”
As always,
Love & Peace
